Day 1 – 3 Day Rome Itinerary: Ancient Ruins and Panoramic Views

Morning: Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill

Start your day at the iconic Coliseum, preferably with a guided tour to truly appreciate its history and hidden details. Make sure you have your ticket purchased online in advance to skip the lines. Then, step into the Roman Forum and Monte Palatino, where Rome began. All three sites are included in the same ticket.

TipStop for a well-deserved coffee: The Caffè Propaganda, located just a few minutes from the Colosseum, it’s the perfect spot to take a break and recharge with a proper Italian cappuccino.

Afternoon: From Piazza Venezia to the Capitoline Hill – monuments and panoramic views

Walk to the impressive Piazza Venezia and visit the monument to Vittorio Emanuele II. You can take the lift to the terrace (ticket sold separately) and enjoy an incredible view over the city. Then, head up to the Capitoline Hill, one of the most beautiful squares in Rome, designed by Michelangelo.

Late afternoon: Get lost in the charm of Trastevere

Cross the Tiber River and get lost in the narrow streets of Trastevere, one of the most charming and authentic neighbourhoods in Rome. Visit the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere and stay for dinner in the area.

Where to eat dinner:

  • Tonnarello – very popular, with generous portions and a relaxed atmosphere.
  • Da Enzo al 29 – more cosy and local, perfect for a traditional Roman meal.

Day 2 – 3 Day Rome Itinerary: Fountains, Squares and Baroque Art

Morning: Trevi Fountain, Pantheon and Piazza Navona

Wake up early to beat the crowds and start at the Trevi Fountain — don’t forget to toss a coin! Then head to the Pantheon, a masterpiece of Roman architecture, and end your morning at the lively Piazza Navona, surrounded by street artists and open-air cafés.

Afternoon: Campo de’ Fiori and the Jewish Ghetto

Explore Campo de’ Fiori, where there’s a morning market, and have lunch nearby. Then, visit the Jewish Ghetto, a lesser-known historic area full of charm, with traditional shops and restaurants.

Tip: Must-try local dessert – Torta di ricotta e visciole (filled with ricotta and sour cherries).

Day 3 – 3 Day Rome Itinerary: Vatican, Gardens and Farewell

Morning: Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel (see tips for visiting the Vatican stress-free)

Book your ticket in advance on the official Vatican Museums website and enter the Vatican Museums early. The Sistine Chapel and the Raphael Rooms are unmissable, but the museum is vast — plan ahead and choose what you want to see.

Afternoon: St. Peter’s Square and Basilica

Late afternoon: A peaceful stroll through Villa Borghese and sunset at Pincian Terrace

End your trip with a walk through the Villa Borghese gardens, Rome’s green oasis. Head up to the Pincian Terrace and enjoy the sunset overlooking Piazza del Popolo.

🍦 Last gelato of the trip:

  • Giolitti – a classic gelato shop near the Parliament, perfect for a sweet farewell to Rome.
