Wine tourism in the Algarve - Quinta Morgado do Quintão

Wine tourism in the Algarve

Today we're going to Quinta Morgado do Quintão. During my recent stay in the Algarve, I also took the opportunity to learn more about wine. Lately, I've become more interested in wine tourism, which is the fault or rather the merit of my friend Madalena Vidigal from Entre Vinhas Wine Tourism Blog.

Can you imagine having a wine tasting with Algarvian snacks in the shade of an olive tree that is over 2000 years old? It's possible at Quinta Morgado do Quintão! It's an experience not to be missed!

We arrived at Quinta Morgado do Quintão at around 4pm. The day had started very early with a 7am departure from Lisbon. We wanted to make the most of these four days in the Algarve (you can see the itinerary here soon), and we had planned some activities, such as a visit to the Benagil Cavea visit to Algar Seco and the center of the village of Carvoeiro, and of course free time to enjoy the beaches and the private pool of the villa where we stayed at the Vale da Lapa Village Resort of the Details Hotels Group in Carvoeiro.

From my experience on other trips, it's always risky to book activities for the same day as the trip, but in this case, as we left Lisbon very early and booked the visit for the afternoon, everything went smoothly and without any mishaps.

The Experience at Quinta Morgado do Quintão

We arrived at Quinta Morgado do Quintão and we had Duarte and Amêndoa waiting for us. Well... Amêndoa (the dog) slept throughout our visit to the quinta. The wine tasting is actually a picnic in the shade of an olive tree, believed to be over 2000 years old.

We started our tasting with the Branco Crato white - with the white label and continued with 5 more wines (we tasted 6 of the 7 Morgado do Quintão wines). Accompanied by a table full of cheeses, sausages, typical Algarvian snacks, olives, olive oil and bread. Duarte explained each wine to us, not without first telling us about the history of the Quinta and its vineyards. Since the first vines were planted on this estate by the Count of Silves. Since then, the Quinta has belonged to the Caldas de Vasconcelos family. After the tasting, we went for a walk through the vineyards and took advantage of the golden hour to take some fabulous photographs.

Which "Experience" to Choose?

The experience we had at Quinta Morgado do Quintão was similar to the "Premium Vineyard Tour and Wine Tasting", although the tour includes a tasting of 3 to 4 wines, and lasts around 1 hour and 30 minutes. In addition to this tour, which I recommend, there are other experiences available at the Quinta, such as the vineyard tour and wine tasting without tasting, or a lunch experience with various dishes and wines. You can find all the details of the experiences available on the Quinta Morgado do Quintão website. The Quinta also offers the possibility of accommodation and wedding parties.
